Pangkor Island - Beauty in a small cup!
Beaches. Bays. Island hopping. Holidays. Sunbathing. Relax and enjoy. Water. Swim suit.
An Island which can be seen in one full day - Pangkor Island. It has some of the quiet and clear beaches of the Malaysian islands. Being one of the smallest islands in Malaysia, this is a perfect getaway for 2-3 days; just to relax and enjoy the island on a bicycle ride. There is not much of a commercial aspect attached with this island and that makes it best for any visit all by yourself.
This post is going to be a lengthy share of my recent visit to the Pangkor Island with lots and lots of photographs. Enjoy the pictures!
Getting there:
You may drive up to the Marina Jetty or Lumut jetty and the drive takes about 4.30 hours to reach the Marina Jetty. From the Jetty, we take the ferry to the Main Pangkor island. The Ferry ride is usually 10 minutes and generally well-packed. It is recommended to start early in the day from the ferry during the school holidays as it is crowded during the sunday afternoons from the Pangkor Island.
You may get a to and fro ticket for the ferry from the Marina island. There are a lot of taxis available in the Pangkor Island jetty entrance and can take you to the respective hotel.
We had a 2 day program in which the first day, we spent time in Island hopping and bike ride through the island. The island hopping is total fun and the boat ride pumps up your adrenaline. One the second day, we decided to opt for a small land tour from the hotel and this is totally optional. If you take a bike, you can yourself go through the whole island in one day and catch up with all the destinations in the island.
Island Hopping:
Be prepared with generous sunblock/sunscreen for the Island Hopping. Other essential items would be a swimsuit, water bottle, sunglasses, extra set of dresses and of course a camera! There are a few snorkelling spots as well during the tour which you can add into the Island Hopping. We started off from the Pantai Pasir Bogak beach as seen below.
We went in a speed boat for the Island Hopping tour. The boat ride was total fun and adrenaline pumping especially with all the sharp turns and fast pace.

Pangkor Laut resort was our first hop. Pangkor Laut is a private island which boasts the beautiful Pangkor Laut resort. Beautiful scenery and vibrant composition would be the best description of this expensive place in Pangkor.

There is a Chinese temple nearby which was also seen during the Island Hopping visit.
There are a lot of formations in the rocks which is seen during the Island Hop visit.
Easy one to guess - Crocodile formation.
We stopped over in the Monkey Bay near the beach for our BBQ lunch. The beach is picturesque and has clear waters for a swim. This is a wonderful place for pictures and relaxation.
You can go for a long walk by the beachside and explore the forestry treasures of the island.
Bike Ride:
Afternoon was fun with the bike ride around the island. This is a lovely way of going around the island to explore its nativeness. Rent a bike and roam the island in a more effortless way so that you can view the intricacies in your own pace. The roads are quite easy to move into and you can come back to the same place in 2-3 hours. Make sure to pack light for your bike ride and remember there roads are sometimes uphill or downhill and it really sloppy. It is recommended to bike only if you are having a license to avoid any casualties and also be careful with the roads. The bike ride was cheap and costed us around RM20 for a 4 hour trip. If you are renting for one day or 2 days, it makes it even cheaper.
This was our view from one of the watch towers seen. There are a lot of watch towers all along the way to enjoy the vastness of the beaches.

Enjoying the sunset on our way in the bike ride. It was a beautiful scenery to view the sunset in the beaches.
Land Tour:
The next morning we went on a land tour in the local vans to some of the famous destinations in Pangkor Island. We visited the Chinese temple called Fu Lin Kong temple, ship making yard, local fishing villages, beaches on the way and the Dutch Fort. I would recommend to go for a land tour if you are coming with children and would like to relax on a van and go around.

How can we not see a Malaysian Hornbill when we are visiting the Pangkor Island. I missed taking photos during the Island visit and other occasions. And on the final day, I saw them outside the balcony of my hotel room; two of them that too!! Out came my camera to click these horns.

I am sure the above places would have covered most of the important destinations in the island. This makes it a best place to visit when all you want is a clear holiday destination with some tranquil beaches. If you are having 2-3 days of holidays, run over to the Pangkor island for some quiet and delectable holiday!
