Sprouted Green gram is a super-food and essentially a power house of nutrition. The reason being, when you sprout a green gram, it represents a baby plant in the growth phase. As I have read somewhere, these help us provide the best of nutrition because they have enzymes which helps in the breakdown of complex substances to simple substances to aid the development of the seed into a plant.
So, who would not like this super food? You can add it into your food in a lot of ways. You can make salads, or add it in your sandwich with other vegetables or make a fried rice or do a simple green gram masala. Here we go with the simple steps to prepare the sprouts:
Day 1: Wash the Green gram thoroughly. Take around 2-3 times the volume of Green gram to completely immerse the Green gram in the water. Let it sit for around 8 hours. I usually soak it in the night and let it sit overnight.
Day 2: Drain the remaining water and transfer the green gram to a thin cotton cloth. I use cotton cloth and it does get sprouted nicely. Once it is transferred, tie the cotton cloth or keep it secured like in the picture. Let it sit for 16-20 hours (maximum for a day or till it develops the shoots) in room temperature, so that it sprouts nicely.
Day 3: Just open the cotton cloth and you can see beautiful sprouts ready for your wonderful health! Store it in a air tight container. You can keep it in the fridge and enjoy it even for a week.
