Panagam and Neer Mor - Drinks to quench thirst

Hindus in India celebrate Rama Navami, commemorating the birth of Shri Ram. It's tradition that we prepare sweets to offer the gods on any special day. However, being the bigger brains that our elders are; they made sure that every offering has some significance to the time the functions happen.

For Rama Navami, we prepare Neer Mor (Spiced Butter Milk) and Panagam (Jaggery drink). The month of April is summer in India. These 2 drinks serve the purpose of quenching the thirst on a super sunny day and also make a wonderful offering to the Gods.

Neer Mor and Panagam are very easy to prepare and would take you less than 15 minutes.

Neer Mor: Take some Yogurt and add twice the amount of water to it. mix it well and give it a nice stir. Add some salt, asafoetida, chopped curry leaves and coriander leaves, chopped ginger, grounded cumin and chopped green chillies. Mix all of them well and your Neer Mor is ready to be served.

Panagam: Take a full handful of jaggery (around 150gms) and add necessary water to it (may be around 1.5 cups of water - add according to your required amount). Let it get dissolved in the water and then add grounded cardamom and 2 full cardamom. Give it a nice mix and add one tbsp of lemon juice. A good stir and your Panagam is ready to be served!
