A trip to Langkawi - The Jewel of Kedah - Part II
Beaches! More beaches! Yes, Langkawi is an Island and there are a lot of beautiful beaches around the coast of Langkawi. This is the second part of our trip which covers the beaches we went in Langkawi and also the half day Island Hopping tour to the Pulau Dayang Bunting and the Pulau Beras Basah. If you wish to read the Part I of the tour, please check it here.
We drove to these beaches in our car. We visited 3 beaches although we tried to squeeze as many beaches as possible during our visit. Those were - Pantai Kok, Pantai Cenang and Pantai Tengah. There are a few more on the Northern side of Langkawi which we could not visit. We were very sure about the weather in Langkawi as its going to be humid and hot as in Malaysia or any other beach destination. It is really required to carry some sunscreen, may be a hat to enjoy the place without worrying about the sun.
Pantai Kok beach was the best of all the 3 we visited with clean waters and shore. There were a lot of small islands just opposite to the beach where you could go on a boat and spend some time (must have been arranged by the nearby hotels in that area). This was the beach you could see from the top in the cable car/Sky Bridge.
In this picture below, you could see some boats waiting in the shore of the small island in the opposite of the beach. You can also swim and go if you are really good in swimming.

The Pantai Kok beach is really vast so you can park your car as you drive along the road and then walk over to the beach. There are a lot of shades nearby where you can relax and enjoy the sun.

The next one in the list is the Pantai Cenang beach. The beach and the surrounding areas is pretty lively with a lot of tourists and having quite a number of spas and restaurants to treat yourself in! There are some malls in that area where you may buy duty free stuff.

Island Hopping - Pulau Beras Basah + Eagle Feeding + Dayang Bunting (Lake of Pregnant Maiden)
So, We just finished with the Beaches we visited in Langkawi. Lets hop on to the Island Hopping tour in Langkawi. I really wanted to visit the Pulau Payar Marine park although that was a one day tour. We were keen for a half day tour and decided into this. We reached the Eagle Square Jetty by morning 9 and we started our tour by 9.30. We were starting in one of the boats as seen in the pictures below.
Pulau Beras Basah Beach |
Our first stop was in Pulau Beras Basah island where we had around 45 minutes to one hour to roam around the island and enjoy the bathing in the beach. Most of the tourists were playing in the waters and enjoying the waves. I could see some water activities area nearby although there were no active operator or people playing for water activities. The sand was white and the waters were greenish blue - an absolute visual treat to our eyes. The whole scenery made it a perfect place to enjoy in the beach.

Eagle feeding |
Our next stop was for the Eagle Feeding in one of the nearby areas. We were just sitting on the boat while we watched the eagles feeding its prey. There were a lot of eagles which was hovering around in that area; most of them in reddish brown color.

The eagles were hovering around and there is no need to panic at all as they seem unnoticed about our boats. One of the eagles just picking its feed from the waters - Poor fish!
After watching the eagles picking their prey from the waters and soaring in the skies, we started for the Pregnant Maiden Lake. The two pictures below shows the Pregnant Maiden formation in the mountains. It looks like a woman who is lying on her back and may be 6-7 months pregnant - which might suggest the name of the lake which is surrounded by these mountains.

Dayang Bunting Geoforest park is where we climb up to visit the fresh water lake - Lake of Pregnant Maiden! It was quite a walk to the lake as we need to climb up through the stairs and then get down to the lake. The whole lake and its surrounding area was picturesque; you can sit on the wooden plank in the lake and enjoy the view of the mountains with the dense forests or do some paddle boating in the lake.

The total time to visit this lake with the walking up and down took us almost one hour. Once finished, we started back to the Eagle Square jetty in our boat.
It is definitely a must to visit all these unique islets in Langkawi as most of them are lying very nearby to each other. The lush greens of the dense forests, vivid and striking beaches, amazing sight seeing; some of them which are breathtaking - makes Langkawi one of the best visits in Malaysia!
